Happy Audio Drama Sunday!
I wanted to start off by shouting out @podcast-bookclub for the fantastic Audio Fiction Convention they organized for this weekend. I'm still catching up on some of the sessions that weren't in my timezone, but I wanted to highlight a couple I've really enjoyed so far:
- Worldbuilding for Audio Fiction by Meg Tuten
- Crowdfunding for Audio Drama by Tal Minear
- BIPOC Rep in Audio Drama by Motzie Dapul
- Remediation of Fiction Podcasts by MJ
There have also been some incredibly interesting panels on writing for audio, using music as a story element, etc. If you haven't checked it out, the VODs are available on the podcast bookclub's twitch channel, and I highly suggest you check them out.
Also check out the discord, and especially the Artist's Alley where myself and other awesome artists have our podcast-inspired art on display 😄
@midnightburgr Welcome to the Horizon Part 10 - Phoenix: So many things to love about this episode. Swamp Thing! Doug and Steve taking the lead on prepping for the disaster is incredible. Trinkett going for the mushrooms! The fucking Teds! And then my absolute favourite part they had me freaking out: Deidre and Verge ON THE MOON!!! [For those who don't know, the voice actors for Deidre and Verge were both in Moonbase Theta, Out, so the fact that their MB characters ended up on the Moon together is just... incredible. Love that for them.] 🌕
@thefringespod S1: AuFiCon inspired me to listening to more shows that I've had on my list for a while, and I started with TftFoR. The worldbuilding is incredible, and the way that it's slowly revealed throughout the season is so well done. I adored Minerva and her violin plucking sounds from the start, but just to show you part of my reaction notes from the end of the season: omgggggg MIN :(((( Crying for Sil. I knew something was up but I wasn't expecting that!!
I'm looking forward to continuing with S2! ✨
@wanderersjournalpod S1: Another show that's been on my list for a while, and that has super interesting world building. The mysterious magical journal is such an interesting way for two characters to communicate. I am absolutely fascinated by this world and these two characters, especially where Marigold has come from. However, I am also very worried for Pluto. Also I love creature. Thank goodness that S2 is in the works! 📔
@starfallpod - Act 1 Scene xix: I couldn't help but laugh at the comment that they're two sacks of potatoes lighter now that Leona has her appetite back. I do love when characters get put in situations with people they might not normally be with, and this was no exception. Especially when the whole goal was for them to get into trouble but in a specific area (which they did). Did Centhy even actually need those flowers? 🌸
@ameliapodcast S5 Part 1: I am absolutely loving the journey into the past that we're taking with both Kozlowski and The Interviewer. I am also wondering how reliable these narrators are...though the CIA checked out Kozlowski's stories! Can't wait to keep delving into their stories. 🐦‍🔥

Audiodrama Sunday 2/2/2025
I'm back! It turns out I had Pneumonia last week, but I'm mostly recovered now and ready to finally resume my audiodrama Sunday posts. This was a good week as well. Mission Rejected finale, Keep it Steady Episode, and I finally started Campaign Skyjacks.
@campaignskyjacks - After listening to Courier's Call, part of Skyjoust, and Starwhal, I'm finally starting the main Skyjacks campaign. It's really fun, I know JPC from Hey Riddle Riddle and he's great. I have to wonder how long they can keep the captain ruse going, and why they decided to do it in the first place.
Mission Rejected - Season 5 finale! I love how Kristatos O’Brian is this legendary old-school supervillain who just follows around his daughter and occasionally says something funny. If he’s ever plot relevant it’s as a damsel. God I can’t believe they ended the season there.
@worldsbeyondpod - Crazy they went from treason to handshaking the prince in one episode. I love how the Twelve Brooks special is setting up the horror of what the citadel is doing here.
@worldgonewrongpod - We missed out on Jamie’s dad?! The separated episode was sad.
@midnightburgr (Welcome to the Horizon)- I thought this was the finale? There’s one more episode right???
@keepitsteadypod - Wow this episode got really heavy. And that’s where they end it??
@midstpodcast - Oh nooo poor Cleo. She’s in love with a space nun.
@starfallpod - Wow, the Fey. Nice low stakes episode, I love Leona's complete lack of concern being lost in a Fey forest.

I love the Tumblr presence of fiction podcasts. It makes it feel like actual people are making these shows and not just an amorphous corporate entity cranking out content. We got one willing to drop small lore and world building hints and clarifications on their work (or just shitposting about their favorite toxic ship from the show) ( @starsfellradio ), we got another hyperfixated on old tools and tech right now ( @starfallpod ), and then we have… whatever the Intern at @ameliapodcast has going on over there.
It’s fun!

I was tagged by @knaveofheartsad for this @podcastgirlsweek poll game, so let’s do this! Thanks for the tag!
I don’t know if you can tell, but I’m a big fan of weird, potentially evil women. And women in general. I love you, women.
Gonna try to tag all of the appropriate podcasts, add your propaganda in the reblogs, y’all!

Omfg, Leona from Starfall is so fucking adorable 🥰. I always wondered what a Paladin-style character like her would jam best in a story. It’s absolutely fascinating how the humor vibes without her being the butt of jokes.
Also, her and Fell are to die for. Like how can the cuteness go that high? If there was a cuteness meter, it’d definitely break whenever Fell is overprotective of Leona.
I still can’t get over the scene when Leona carried Fell away from those beetle fae-creatures. I imagine it as a bridal carry.
I’m on Act 1 Scene 5. Honestly amazed I got this far, I’m more of a scifi, spaceships going boom sort of joy so whenever a fantasy jams.. heh, definitely gonna listen to this a couple more times in the future.
I heard there’s a character with they/them pronouns somewhere. Keeping my eyes pealed but tbh the drama is so fucking killer that I keep forgetting to listen for it lol.

anyways the thing about starfall is that it has objectively made me better at Fight Sounds but also sometimes you think you'll do a chill recording session over lunch to knock out one more episode before you actually review the script and then you spend 45 minutes going absolutely feral in your closet (and you're only about a quarter of the way through) so. there's that.

I'm not a writer so I can't contribute to Ace Podcast Week with a fanfic (though I've been loving all the ones I've read so far!) so I'll contribute in my own way - with a bracelet! In honour of all of the fantastic ace podcast characters:

Audiodrama Sunday 11/17/2024
Once again I forgot to do a write-up last week, but I have my notes I took as I listened to stuff, so this is going to be a long one.
@storiesfromylelmore - This was a serious episode but I lost my shit at mom are you a furry?”. I fully had to pause the episode to laugh out loud. Does everybody else imagine the kids’ school as looking identical to their own middle school? Like the layout, the lockers, the front office, everything.
@innbetween - I started this show and binged the first 2 seasons. I really love this show, it's so funny and has great character work. The “previously” and “next time on” for events that happen offscreen is so clever, I've never seen a story do that and I like it so much. I love how it's clearly a d&d campaign with Fina making real-world references.
Skyjacks: Couriers Call - Alba leaving destroyed me god damn. Why did they have to draw The River. The first half of this episode was brutal.
@starfallpod - Leona popped the fuck off. “I am the highest power here” was amazing. The conflict between Leona and Fel in this episode had the vibes of a really good d&d campaign.
Mall Brats - This was the “Fenton buying rats flashback” episode! Truly the best flashback of all time.
@lostterminalpod - Three AIs on the same network violates the principle created by Seth’s mom. Interested to learn more about this.
@witherburn-after-school-news - Great season finale, I really like this show. Normally horror isn't my thing, but the low stakes town stuff mixed in really makes it work for me. Can't wait for the next season!
Starwhal Odyssey - Andrathel’s introduction was cool. I love a scene in an AP where the players aren’t present. I’m so excited for the wedding, when they get to it.
@worldgonewrongpod - Time travel! That was fun. How do they know about incoming time waves? Do kids under the age of 10 blip out of existence for an hour? I need to know more of the worldbuilding!
@brimstonevalleymall - Timeskip! Damien and Raven being traded to Nisroch is so funny. After so long we finally learn the deal with Hornbloss.
@secondfiddles - More people are part of the cult! I wonder how long until we get another episode focused on Tammy
@midstpodcast - The description of the oasis was so cool. Mother Artifice is quickly becoming one of my favorite characters.
@kingmakerpod - The sound design during the rockslide was amazing, I listened to it in my car and it sounded so good. I loved Telesphore’s detective moment at the end too.
@midnightburgr - Ava speaking into Caspar's head was so funny. We never learned what the deal with this copy of earth was. Normally I hate scifi plots where Earth has great intergalactic importance for no reason (see: the entire MCU), but I trust the MB team to do it well. They definitely have so far!
Bitcherton - This show has started fully airing after a pilot to promote the Kickstarter. Katie Marovitch is so funny, I can't wait to hear more of her.

Starfall ocs! Simon (37ish, he/him), a traveling faeblood baker who sells "lucky bread", and Sons (16, she/her), whos name is totally Sons and is totally just his assistant and not someone who needs to get from point a to point b quickly and discretely.
They have a horse and cart that has a furnace on it, and they carve runes into the bread they make and sell it to passers-by as they travel, claiming that the bread will bring them luck. It does not, but it sells for a pretty penny to those who believe that it will. They dont have permits to do this but the idea is that they wont be stopped or found by those who enforce permits anyways.

In hindsight it was inevitable that I'd end up so fond of Starfall, it's the giant-sword anime and fantasy novels of my teenage years but with improved gender balance, canonically neurodivergent and aspec leads, and a fondness for creative magic in arts/science instead of tedious warfare. Brilliant.
